  • Dear Archive,

My name is Rob Martin, my Great Grandfather ‘ William Burgess ‘ ( grave at Aberbeeg cemetery ) lived in this house, 1903 – 46.
There seems to be very little evidence as to why the beautiful house had to be destroyed?

I have found info on line which leads to a Man, John Dixon and his art classes, with, my Grand Mother sat next to him, ( old photos )

It’s odd that it implies that John Dixon lived in this house too?? but how?? I have the family photos and I have my family pictured at the house during the Great War, 1920’s and 30’s + .

  • Hello, Rob,
The house was demolished to make way for the development of the A467 road.
I will contact a friend, who lives in Aberbeeg, and ask if she has any more information to help.

It may help if you could give me your email address.

  • Brondeg was actually built in 1843 by the Webb family, who built the brewery in 1838. I lived at Brondeg from 1953 until it was demolished in 1965.

  • Thank you for your comment Gaynor, which you’ll see I’ve added to the post. It’s heartening when people provide such detail to our photographs, especially when they have a personal link like you.
