Thanks for the message regarding the ‘ house and history ‘. I went to where the house had once sat, I saw nothing but a huge empty void, no trace could be found.
My name is Rob Martin, my Great Grandfather ‘ William Burgess ‘ ( grave at Aberbeeg cemetery ) lived in this house, 1903 – 46. There seems to be very little evidence as to why the beautiful house had to be destroyed?
I have found info on line which leads to a Man, John Dixon and his art classes, with, my Grand Mother sat next to him, ( old photos )
It’s odd that it implies that John Dixon lived in this house too?? but how?? I have the family photos and I have my family pictured at the house during the Great War, 1920’s and 30’s + .
Upon his grave, Aberbeeg, ‘ Brondeg ‘ is written in…
Hello, Rob, The house was demolished to make way for the development of the A467 road. I will contact a friend, who lives in Aberbeeg, and ask if she has any more information to help.
It may help if you could give me your email address. Regards
Thank you for your comment Gaynor, which you’ll see I’ve added to the post. It’s heartening when people provide such detail to our photographs, especially when they have a personal link like you.

Brondeg was actually built in 1843 by the Webb family, who built the brewery in 1838. I lived at Brondeg from 1953 until it was demolished in 1965.

A lovely picture of ‘Brondeg House’, the once home of my great grandfather , William F Burgess, Manager of Webbs.
