Quoits - Two Llanhilleth Champions
Up until the early 1960’s, quoits was a very popular game in Llanhilleth, played on the quoit “bed” near the river wall at the entrance to the park. The bed is now covered by the entry road.
Llanhilleth hosted a number of international games against Scotland, and many people remember the teams being led through the village to the park by a band of pipers.
Two of Llanhilleth’s best players were the Parker brothers, Fred and Alfie, who both won many championships and presented Wales.
The first photograph shows Fred in action and the second, with one of his many trophies.
